Are there emergency funds or resources available for students affected by COVID19, end of field, and/or summer online?
- With support from SSW Alumni, the Deans have announced an SSW Student Emergency Fund Related to COVID-19. Scroll down on this page for more info about the fund, and see here for the application form.
- Jordan Alam A'20 and Naomi Johnson A'21 are also collecting information from students who have been affected by early termination of field and summer online and connected students monetary and material resources. What is the contingency plan if students cannot safely (due to COVID-19) go to their field placements in the fall?
- This is an unfolding question. Smith SSW is looking into various possibilities, including creating both real and simulated internship opportunities through the Field Office at SSW, which would involve working clinically with community members and/or professional actors. The Field Office will be holding a Q&A on June 5 for incoming SSW'ers and on June 12 for rising 2nd years. Will there be a discount on tuition given that we won't be getting the experience that we signed up for?
- As of right now, the administration has said However, there are many students who are interested in advocating for this-- see question 10.
How will health insurance be affected if we are not onsite during the summer?
- Not sure. My guess is that it will not be affected, but we should confirm.
Will Financial Aid be affected?
- At the Deans Q&A on 3/19, they confirmed that it will not be affected. However, you should check on your own situation to make sur.
How do they anticipate providing the summer experience online - what are their general principles / ways they're thinking about this at this point?
- The administration are working very hard with faculty and instructors to adapt the academic material to a digital/virtual landscape. They are committed to upholding the quality of the academic experience, providing guidance and compensation for the additional training and work that instructors have had to engage in in order to make this summer rich and meaningful
How will students be able to access necessary services like the writing center, quiet study spaces, library services, Office of Disability Services, etc.?
Will counseling, self-care and wellness services still be available for students?
- Yes, we are also very interested in this question. Hopefully we will get an answer at the Deans Q&A or before then.
